Alan Barrell Chairs Eagle Genomics Ltd | November 2008
Text of Judge Business School Press Release:
Judge Business School is delighted to announce that one of its Cambridge MBAs has transformed himself from an eager academic to a confident entrepreneur. Using the Cambridge MBA to inspire and re-motivate him, Abel Ureta-Vidal, MBA 2007 expanded his horizons and co-founded Eagle Genomics, within a year of starting his Cambridge MBA. Eagle Genomics sits at the heart of Cambridge's bio-cluster, bridging a niche gap between academic research data and how it's used in commercial industry.
The Cambridge MBA was instrumental in developing Abel's business acumen while giving him the opportunity to network with leading business founders in Cambridge's vibrant and successful entrepreneurial community. Judge Business School's Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (CfEL) allowed Abel to compliment his MBA by fostering his entrepreneurial talent through a range of lively collaborative activities.
Abel Ureta-Vidal commented: "Choosing the Cambridge MBA was an easy decision. Cambridge is home of the largest biocluster in Europe and I wanted to stay in touch with the field of biology and the University has an unrivalled reputation for excellence. The entrepreneurial environment of Cambridge enabled me to build confidence in my abilities as an entrepreneur. I learnt new business skills and the importance of the power of networking and collaboration.”
It was through networking at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning's Ignite programme in June 2008, that Abel found the Chairman for his company, Professor Alan Barrell. Abel Ureta-Vidal said: "I'm delighted that Professor Alan Barrell has joined Eagle Genomics. We will be able to learn a huge amount from his tremendous business experience, entrepreneurial connections, and enthusiasm.”
Professor Alan Barrell is Entrepreneur in Residence at the School's Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning and has 30 years of experience in technology based industries. One of Cambridge's most articulate promoters of entrepreneurship, Professor Alan Barrell commented: "I am very excited about my appointment at Eagle Genomics. When I met Abel and his colleagues, I could immediately identify with their vision and purpose and admired their knowledge and competence. Abel and his colleagues' willingness to exchange secure employment, as well qualified graduates, for the entrepreneurial life of uncertainty and risk impressed me. I'm looking forward to working with them, and to help make Eagle Genomics a leader in its field.”
